Citizen science projects in the astronomical field

Citizen Science projects are activities organized and supported by a wide range of organizations so that ordinary citizens can contribute to scientific research. The activities related to Citizen science are of various types and range from transcribing old ship's logbooks to digitize climatic and geographic data such as in the Old Weather project to the cataloging of galaxies observed with astronomical instruments such as the Galaxy Zoo.

In some cases the citizen's job is very simple and perhaps concerns the recognition of certain forms. In others it is more complex and needs specific training, always provided by the site that proposes the project. It must be remembered that the possibility of making mistakes by the citizen in this data analysis operation is also taken into consideration, also because each report is supplied to several subjects: the majority of tests that will determine the final result will then be considered.

These projects are also very interesting to propose to the whole class (preferably high school) so that students who can analyze the images in a team and start a real team work and scientific research.

Here are some active projects in the astronomical field.
